Today, I will share with you one of my favorite things to do during thanksgiving with my friends.

Amid the incoming holiday hustle, l don’t know how many times I’ve said, “daddy can just pick up dinner tonight.” It is too easy to throw in the towel, and go out to eat. Last year, I made a grocery list, went shopping, and toted everything over to my girlfriend’s house for a pre-thanksgiving productive playdate!

Recap of the crazy:

4 women

10 kids

12 freezer meals

We all squeezed into the kitchen with our groceries, throw-away containers, and prepped meals together. We each brought enough ingredients to make three family-size dishes of our choice. Therefore we made three servings, of three different dishes, and then we did a swap. We all left with three different meals to take home! Perfect kid-friendly meals to just pop in the freezer, and pull out during thanksgiving break!

We chatted about life, and made this everyday, mundane chore fun! Community with my friends, playdate for my littles, and three easy-to-throw in-the-oven freezer meals later, we headed home. On my drive home, I was thinking, why don’t we do this more? We need each other. Especially during the holidays, Thanksgiving can be a lonely time for many. Loss, grief, loneliness, broken relationships, a family that lives far away… etc.

We need each other.

We need to encourage each other in the everyday mundane. We need to hold onto hope through the practice of daily thanksgiving. We need to remember to invite each other into our chaos; God created us for community.

– And let us consider how we

may spur one another on

toward love and good deeds,

not giving up meeting

together, as some are in the

habit of doing, but

encouraging one another-

and all the more as you see

the Day approaching.

So next time you are arranging a playdate for your little ones, or are simply heading over to your girlfriend’s house, send her your favorite recipe, and vice versa: have her tote over the groceries (enough to make two servings ), enjoy friendship, alongside productivitivity!

Below, I linked the recipes that we made together for our productive playdate!
