Welcome

Welcome to The Sublime Soiree: Friends Living Free Above the Fray. Each week we will celebrate Biblical truths, seek expert advice and sample soiree secrets to help us walk steadily through life’s circumstances while inviting others to do the same.

Some of you might ask, “Why the Sublime Soiree? I thought a soiree was a party, and life hasn’t felt very festive lately!” We couldn’t agree with you more! The circumstances of life have been far more a struggle than a soiree lately. In fact, much of life has struggles. Truth is, many of us have been suffering through our circumstances, eagerly anticipating smoother days, when maybe that’s the wrong approach. Maybe there are gifts to glean in every reality we encounter that allow us to see every struggle as part of a sublime soiree.

Why is it called the Sublime Soiree?

Even amidst life’s toughest trials, a Savior-focused life truly can be a soiree. A sublime one!

Sublime is defined as “of such excellence, grandeur or beauty as to inspire great admiration or awe.” Don’t you believe our Savior is the definition of sublime? We do!

Soiree is defined as a party or gathering, typically in a private house, for conversation. And that is what we are hoping – that these videos will be an opportunity to virtually visit around our kitchen tables and encourage our friends not only to enjoy but also to invite others to God’s sublime soirée.

Isn’t that approach a bit shallow and frivolous?

At first blush, one might think so. But consider this: The Westminster Shorter Catechism states that “Man’s chief end is to glory God, and to enjoy Him forever.” God WANTS us to ENJOY Him! Always. But, how often do we really do that?

Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who – FOR THE JOY set before Him – endured the cross, scorning its shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

But, friend, how often do we live like someone who has JOY set before them? We get way too focused on our circumstances and look far too infrequently to the One who has charge over them all!

And that’s why we are doing this. To encourage ourselves and our friends to live in God’s Sublime Soiree: Free Above the Fray. In the weeks and months ahead, we will be unpacking this concept of the Sublime Soiree a little further while we explore fresh ways to live free above the fray. We have a place card at the table with your name on it, so please join us.
